Brad Curtis Final Project

My final project would have involved showing everyone my version of a segment from an anime. The person I researched was Akira Toriyama, best known for drawing the manga (Japanese comics) of Dragon Ball. His biggest aspirations that got him into the line of work was seeing other animations and liking fighting styles. Dragon Ball utilizes these and is also based on a Chinese folktale called Son Wukong, parodying it. This is where my version comes in. My main things I like to do are play video games and watch anime and movies. Seeing different styles have made me come up with my own style, one I say is realistic by using blood, gore, cussing, and other things some companies tone down. From this, I have even come up with my own anime storyline (don’t ask what it’s about; for right now, I’m keeping it a secret). This is how I come up with the storyline and style. I place my characters into the scene and just let it play out in my head. That’s how my style came about.

(Unfortunately, I still don’t know how to get things into the blog, so I can’t post the animation here. It takes the fight scene at the beginning of Dragon Ball Z episode 31 with my style.)

Brad Curtis Innovation

New Media is basically anything visual and using some form of electronics to create something new and/or help make life easier. Innovation is the process of creating something new, whether it’s something entirely new or a new way of doing something already.

1. Video games – realistic graphics and game play
2. Movies – like Blu-Ray to get HD
3. Meijers (where I work) – scan barcodes to order more product
4. Bowling – keep track of scoring and use animation for various things
5. Vehicles – navigational features to help with directions

∙For video games, there are mainly three companies that do it now. There is Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Sega used to do it.
∙It involves putting together many different circuits and creating an interface to interact with both on screen and in the user’s hands.
∙It was mainly aimed at teenager boys, but has tried to incorporate adults, a younger group, and females. Nintendo’s newest systems, the Wii and DS, have been aimed at those non-gamers.
∙Flash games are being made all the time, so by using these systems if I choose, I could create something with more power.

Brad Curtis 4/20/09 Cl . . . Chicken!

Ah, what a class. Oh my, is that a chicken? Yes it is. That was diffidently something different! It helped show to just try something new and see how it works out if you can. The movie was pretty funny. Might be something I check out at a later time.

Brad Curtis Different

My idea of quantum theory is taking what Beth said, but looking at it in a different way. It’s true that when we decide on a decision, all others are thrown aside. But this is where I look at it differently. Even though we go forth with one decision, the others are not completely gone. True, if that chosen decision works, then the others don’t matter anymore. But if it doesn’t, then the others are back in the decision-making. Not to mention that when doing that chosen decision, who’s to say we are not thinking of those decisions just in case that one doesn’t work, and/or if other decisions have similar parts?

Brad Curtis 4/13/09

Class was thought provoking. In this day and age, we use the Internet for many different things. But with the idea of communication like MySpace and FaceBook being accessible by pretty much anyone if all people are allowed to see it, our privacy is starting to go away. We don’t want everybody to see our stuff, yet we use the Internet time and again for other purposes. Will we ever have true privacy?

Brad Curtis What The Bleep

This movie was pretty interesting. It brought up a lot of things I normally don’t think about. It was nice to see many people interviewed to get different takes on the same topic. The animation blobs were a nice touch, including when they mixed it with real life. Focusing on one person throughout the movie I thought helped the journey process.

Brad Curtis Gift

For Mary Ellen, I made a really simple birthday card. Unfortunately, during the week I had to do it, I concentrated more on other homework and did this at the last second, but for what it’s worth, here is something!

Note: I still do not know how to get stuff into the blog, so the picture would be posted here instead of the words.

Brad Curtis 3/23/09 Class

Well, class was very funny! Mary only helped with that. As with the word, it helped me hearing others to see what I needed to do. Our Bobble Head was certainly interesting along with the pieces of pictures we left on the table. Everything came about simply by using what was around us. It was funny seeing the Law students.

Brad Curtis Celebration

To use “experience” and “job” to celebrate hoe, some kind of system could be used to keep track of how long someone uses it on the job and how it was used. This could be done from using cameras to sensing it with sensors. If they really wanted to, they could always take time out of the work time to point out the hoe. This is all the more likely if the hoe is part of their business in some way.

Brad Curtis Inspired Idea

The idea that came about the most for the word “experience” was job. I want to be a video game programmer, designer, and/or animator. I need to learn the skills in order to have a chance of getting at least one of those jobs. When playing some of my games, I sometimes think what the character went through to get where he/she is.

(Note: again, I forgot about the several days part, so I’m doing this in shorter intervals for what it’s worth).

Brad Curtis Time Flies

Well, thinking of “experience” was at times not that hard. When I play video games, experience does play a part in more than one way. I had some relatives visit from out of state yesterday, so it could have crossed my mind then as well. Although I taped the word to the back of my door, I did make sure to think of the word when looking into the mirror.

(Note: again, I forgot about the several days part, so I’m doing this in shorter intervals for what it’s worth.)

Brad Curtis Day With A Word

I’ve taped my word from the magazine onto the back of my door. I chose my door instead of the mirror because I see that more often (including after I get up) than the bathroom mirror.

(Note: again, I forgot about the several days part, so for what it’s worth, I’m doing this assignment at shorter intervals.)

Brad Curtis Special Word

The word I found was experience. Nothing too hard nor too simple.

(Note: I forgot this assignment was to be done in several days. I remember the picking the word and e-mailing Beth for the final instructions, but didn't remember the other steps involved more than a few hours. For what it's worth, I'll do the assignment, only with a shorter time frame.)

Brad Curtis 3/2/09 Class

Final, final, final projects!! Oh well. When it comes, I’ll do it. I don’t stress that much on them. I’m still thinking of sticking with my idea. Talking about the reading did help me understand a lot more! What I thought seemed to be right. The red light situation did help me a little. One thing I was glad of was hearing it’s not illegal to turn left onto a “One Way” street. It only fuels my extreme hatred when someone doesn’t do it.

Brad Curtis AHH! Hard Reading!!

Oh man! I had such a hard time reading this. This is the type of stuff I have the hardest reading and understanding, which means what I think it says may be wrong as I did have a really hard time with this. What I got from taking children and training them in what rules they have for their land. It was a very interesting approach to how to do it. It was like kidnapping. Again, I really wished it was worded differently or straight to the point.

Brad Curtis 2/23/09 Class

Oh, look at the bowl. It's not a grinder, but an instrument (although someone did mention it as a possible sex tool). AAAHHHH! Final projects. Actually, I don’t freak out like that. I just take some time to do it and then it’s over. My idea actually came about right before we did the group talk. Although the hour we had was definitely way tooooo long! I’ve had an anime idea for a long time with my own style for it. When thinking about it, I here and there take my characters and apply it to various scenes I like from usually my 5 favorite anime. I decided I could storyboard one scene from an anime and do it in my own style.

Brad Curtis The Best Assignment So Far

Ah, what a great 3 hours of homework. Probably one of the best things I have ever done. I mean, to take 3 hours and do what makes me the happiest. I decided to go with my favorite thing to do and that is to play a video game. This easily took up 3 hours and I actually spent some more time playing as between work, school, and 2 school clubs, I don’t have a lot of free time. I did have my anger moments here and there, but those were minor and I really did enjoy myself. If only more assignments were like this!

As for my final project, I suggest having everybody doing something they normally don’t do. For me, I normally sit around in my room playing video games, and watching anime and movies with doing homework at times. I could do something like jog around the block for a set time for a week or so. This would allow me to do something I really don’t do at all!

Brad Curtis 2/16/09 Class

Man, what a class. Sitting there in a seat listening to people talk. Oh wait, that did happen, except it was in my room watching some anime. From time to time, I paused the show and thought what I would do. Then I eventually came up with something. I’ll do something I like to do. That would be playing video games and watching anime and movies. I decided to just do playing a game since that can easily take up 3 hours and put my mind at peace. Even though I might get pissed off at this and that, I’m still at peace and doing 1 of the 3 things I like best. I don’t have to worry about homework or work. I’m just in my little world in my room. So, now for the easy part, do it!

Brad Curtis Bag(s)

Oh baggy, oh baggy. Well, mine fell within something I did on Thursday and Friday. That would be shopping. To clarify what I shopped for since I don’t like to do it that often, I shopped for anime at Best Buy. As I was paying for them, guess what they got put into. Oh my, it was a plastic bag. Who would have guessed? Anyways, this helped me carry my stuff from the store to my car and then from the car to my room. There were actually 2 bags involved, one for each day. There wasn’t a whole lot of time spent with each of them, but did stick around in my room as I went through each disc making sure they worked. Since there were no problems, they were then thrown away. As for music, it was partially windy on both days I went, so the bag was moving a tiny bit while I was carrying it. They have that crunchy sound. In total, there was about 20 seconds involved both days carrying my stuff, so there’s my music. Despite it being short, no one said music had to be a certain length.

Brad Curtis 2/9/09 Class

Look at the pretty little bag. That definitely happened when I put it over my head and could barely see anything. The music was calm and relaxing. Different from the usual stuff I like to listen to and nice to see what other artists were doing (I don’t recall hearing her name before). The movie was pretty interesting. It was interesting to see what different ways are used to make music. Some of them I never thought of before. As for the ending of the movie, I’ll probably never see it as it wasn’t the type of movie I would like to see again and own. The next class definitely remembered what we did last week as we walked out from class at the end to go to wherever. My take on the “what if” scenario if she did slapped her kid or some other bad thing was it wasn’t our fault. She shouldn’t let it bug her that much and just move on with life. I wouldn’t feel the least bit responsible.

Brad Curtis No Help

Honestly, I feel we don’t need to make it up this time around. That class probably doesn’t realize what are class is all about. It is seeing things in a different way, hence Seeing Sideways. I know it was probably a real pain having to fix that, but that is the only time we have done. Now, if we did it again, then yes, I would say we would need to make it up to them. But since this was the first (and probably the only time giving the reaction), I say no. I’m not trying to be mean, but I keep pointing to what the class is about. And no, I don’t count the circle thing at all because that is something very simple and can easily be fixed, plus, we use it for our class. If we did it again, I say we can make it up by undoing our circle at the end of class. Also, I don’t know about the specifics about this, but they could possibly meet in another room if even the circle thing is pisses them off.

I can understand that bad feeling. Something pisses them off and then they are in a bad mood the rest of the day. This in turn could possibly piss someone else off as they could interact in some way with that pissed off person. If great enough, then the cycle could continue. Everybody is different, so certain things could have different effects. As for being responsible, it can be a yes and no situation. Sometimes we inadvertently do something that someone doesn’t like, even if we don’t realize it. This would be more of a no situation since that person didn’t do it on purpose and didn’t know.

Brad Curtis I Can't Taste My Favorite Things & Sensing

Oh man. Taking away taste was not fun, especially on the day I did it. Usually we get pizza on Thursday. I normally get a P-Zone and a stuff crust pizza. Well guess when I did my no taste. Yep! On Thursday. And you can probably guess when I did my 3 hours. Yep. When we got pizza. So there I am watching some anime eating the P-Zone and drinking some soda. All’s good, except for the fact I can’t taste anything. (Note: every time I drank and ate, I held my nose. It takes away taste for me) It really sucked to know that I’m eating and drinking some of my favorite things and can’t taste them. Uhg! What a pain! At least I had some pizza leftover to enjoy with taste the next day.

As for my 6th sense, I would make it be a sensing ability. Basically a person could sense someone’s basic energy and be able to tell where they were at and get an idea what they were doing based on how much energy they have and/or how fast it is dropping. In a way, it would allow a person to sense who is around them and avoid surprises.

Brad Curtis 2/2/09 Class

Create. Creation. Cre..................
Yeah. So many variations of just one word. At least it isn't stuck in my head (or so I think anyway). The creat, innova, inqui (good thing this isn't Word or I'd get red lines) ideas made sense to me. I've actually used them a little in some other classes. Class reminded me of other times when a simple conversation about something can turn into a huge thing when bringing in various topics. The pictures were nice to see what other people think of and do. The refigerator story was funny and interesting at the same time (oh my!).

Waygooz!!!!

(There would be 2 pictures here, but I don't know how to get them into the blog. If someone tells me how, I'll put them here.)

Brad Curtis 1/26/09 Class

Class made me think of eggs way too much! But to comment on that, I definately never thought of breaking the egg open in anyway to do something. It just never did. Juggling was the first thing I thought of and it stuck with me until I did it. Eating a raw egg was something I haven't heard of in a while. The "nine things" were thought provoking. The egg breaking was a suprise event (oh so many eggs). I was happy to get some laughs out of my video. Keeps it from being dull and boring.

Brad Curtis The Egg And Eye

For my egg assignment, I decided to juggle the egg plus another one. I have never really juggled anything before, so it was interesting to try, especially since most likely they would break if I dropped them, henceforth not being able to do it again. I started out with the one just to give it a try and prepare myself for two. This proved to be not all that helpful since I did drop them. Eventually, one did break, thus stopping my juggling eggs as one was simple to do. This whole thing fits into the "round" thing as both eggs were round and juggling them around was in a round shape. Though short lived (I mean really short lived), I did enjoy trying something out again that I haven't done in a while. This still reassures me I shouldn't take up juggling as a career.

Brad Curtis 1/12/09 Class

Class was interesting and does live up to the name "Seeing Sideways." This allows me to see things in new ways to think about. Sometimes it can be a way I have never thought about. The syllabus did made me think a little more about it, but I still will typically use it every week to look at the calendar if it has one. If it doesn't, well, I guess I won't be using it that much, now will I? Wayzgoose (am I even spelling it right!?) was interesting. I have never heard that before. One more thing to add to the new list. I don't see myself using that word outside of this class as probably most people haven't heard it before (hm, this matches the reaction in class when first hearing it). I don't want to go around saying it and have to explain it and/or have people look at me like an idiot. As for "round," this can be multiple things. Besides the obvious classroom and egg, one of the things first used by me was my sunglasses as I went home, which includes another thing by way of my steering wheel I used to even drive my car. The biggest one for me is at home with my remotes and analog sticks on the game controllers. I can use those a lot, which goes along with my interesting fact I said in class.

Brad Curtis' Blog Spot

Here it is. It will be interesting to see (looking at sideways, I suppose) what new things I will learn.
